Dear Ms. Kate and the Right to Repair South Africa Team,
I hope you are well.
My name is Nkosinathi Praise Ngomane, and I am reaching out to inquire whether Right to Repair South Africa could assist me — or refer me to any affiliated independent workshops — regarding vehicle repair support.
I am currently facing financial difficulties and cannot afford the necessary repairs on my sixth-generation Toyota Corolla sedan E90. The vehicle has several issues, including the engine not starting, gearbox problems, brake failure, and interior damage. Since this car is my main mode of transport to school and for family responsibilities, the situation has become quite urgent.
If your organisation has partner workshops, community repair initiatives, or subsidised programmes available, I would be very grateful for any guidance or assistance.
Thank you for your time and for the important work your organisation does to support consumer rights and independent automotive repair services in South Africa.
2023 My brother took our T5 Transporter panel van driving to Pretoria from westrand but when he got to Diepslot the van had a brake down and it lost power all he could hear is a knock in the engine. it was towed to our place in Tshepisong. we owned a f20 1 series BMW and it was serviced at Masakona Service Centre so since I was getting a good service from them i asked them to check the van for me and the outcome was that it requires and engine rebuild or replacement and other things. as a self-employed person I tried raising funds but did not win. and opted to sell the van and did not get the buy and they also told me that they not getting the buyer which later discovered someone wanted it. post that I sold the BMW and paid them a deposit the following day for the van repairs as per arrangement later on discovered they couldn't buy the replacement engine because the owner has chowed my money and couldn't do a re-build because he sold essential parts of the engine. its only then i discovered that I'm not the only one RMI and others started investigations eventually revoked their association. i tried to pursue him (Given Isaac Ntimbane) in different ways without laying a charge as the police station and other bodies were helpless with the complaints they getting about them. It had a serious negative impact for my business and after i towed back the van the other mechanic advised that the least it only required oil pump. right now I'm about to miss an opportunity that requires that type of a van which serves the out-going matriculants with a different approach to celebrate pens down occasion.
I have a car that I bought brand new, but was involved in an accident. The car has a damaged cradle, the bumper is finished. However the car is uninsured, so now I am left with a R45K bill to repair it, which I cant afford. However I bought used parts. As for the labour and paint. I did it myself. You can see the difference in paint, because the paint is not common. So now its just a coplete car, however the car doesnt please me when I look at it, even though I used primer, 3 coats of the paint, then clear coat. My problem is that I still want to get it professionally done. Please help
